At the very top center area of the photo is the Red House which house the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre.   Moving down on the right, the Umana Yana.  At the bottom of the photo is the Atlantic Ocean and the Pegasus Hotel with its surrounding buildings and facilities.

During Continuing Promise 2010, both the President of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo and the Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds, flew out to visit the USS Iwo Jima. They traveled on separate days. This photo shows the US Marine Corps CH-46 helicopters taking off with the Prime Minister, regional chairmen and a member of the media.

Umana Yana

Umana Yana is Wai Wai “for meeting place of the people”.  It is 55 feet tall and was built by Wai Wai Indians in 1972.  This type of Amerindian thatched hut is called benab.

The main entrance to these beautiful gardens is on Middle Street.  Its peaceful appearance belies a torrid past as slaves involved in the 1823 East Coast Rebellion were publicly hanged there.
